What is Rug Tufting?
Your art, our process
Tufted art—including rugs, wall hangings, and other textiles—
goes through a three-step process:Tufting, Gluing, and Shaving.
The rug tufting process involves sending yarn through a stretched fabric canvas using a tufting gun. Yarn loops can either be left intact (loop-pile) or trimmed (cut-pile) depending on the design and texture you want to create. After tufting, the piece is glued and shaved for durability and a polished finish.
What to expect during your rug making experience

Each workshop at Tuft By Numbers is designed to walk you through the full tufting process, from design to finishing. We provide your pre-drawn canvas, yarn, tools, and expert instruction so you can focus on creating.
Step 1. Register Online
Head to our booking page to choose your location, time, and session date.
Step 2. Select your design
Pick from a wide array of pre-drawn artwork, or submit your own image prior to class. We’ll have your design professionally transferred onto canvas before you arrive.
Step 3. Show up & Tuft
When you arrive, your station will be fully prepped with:
-Your image drawn on canvas.
-Your selected yarn colors.
-All tools and materials provided.
An instructor will walk you through the process and be available for 1:1 help throughout your entire 3-hour session.
Step 4. Finishing & Pickup
Once you complete your tufting, we handle the gluing and shaving process. You’ll be notified when your rug is ready for pickup—or we can ship it directly to you.
